Macedonian tambura is a traditional folk instrument which is unique both tonally and in appearance between all Balkan stringed instruments. The body is usually made out of Walnut but any other domestic hardwood is good such as Maple, Cherry, Chestnut etc. There is two double strings tuned in D (for first two) and A (for the second two). The Macedonian Tambura or Macedonian Tamboura is usually comping instrument but can be used for solo especially between skilled players. The soundboard is always Spruce and there is a hardwood veneer where the scratching from the plectrum is possible. This veneer is usually glued right underneath the soundhole and finishes with simple curved line which is different between luthiers in Macedonia. The Macedonian Tamboura design is simple and it must stay like that, ornamentation should be minimalistic as it always was.
